Dawsonville Moonshine Festival
cars and shine
and everything in-between
An annual event held in October
it's the kare for kids annual moonshine festival that takes over the streets of dawsonville each october. filled with thousands of visitors from every neck of the woods, people descend to get a sneak peak at the illegal made legal.
it's the hometown distillery - dawsonville moonshine distillery (located on highway 53 adjacent to the georgia racing hall of fame), one of the first legal operations in the state, where owner cheryl wood and family will share a taste (literally) of their grandfather's recipe. one of the four distillers will gladly give you a tour and teach you all they know about moonshine. if you're lucky, you'll get bullet bob (with straw hat and bottle below).
but remember, you can't buy your own bottle on site. you'll have to walk toward downtown and find it in the local liquor store.
in addition to festival sights and moonshine, it's a car show for the ages. some 400 plus cars lined every school parking lot, side street and shopping center lot where space was available. some sported 'for sale' signs while others just raised the hood so people could be amazed. the georgia racing hall of fame calls dawsonville home, so it makes sense that where the love of cars reigns right up there with the love of shine, here is where you'll find some of the most amazing examples of the automobile industry.
if you missed it this year, don't worry; the cars and shine will roll around next october. see you there.
