the william j. clinton presidential library is located in little rock, arkansas. an architectural marvel, it hosts memories, journeys, and momentous days of a eight-year presidency. the museum is home to many exhibits. this day begins with a look at the arkansas travelers, a group who banded together from 1992-1996 to rally support for clinton. this exhibit will be on display through june of 2013.
upon entrance the stretch limousine sets the tone as one travels three-stories up, walking with this man through his presidency. there are video and photo galleries that begin with his quest for the white house and continue throughout his years in office; updates include hillary's bid for the presidency in 2008. there are the two-story shelves of presidential documents (all open record - which only includes three percent of his total papers). a guide states that the papers that are accessible are the ones the organizers thought people might request. the other ninety-seven percent are tucked away but still available under the freedom of information act. permanent exhibits establish a timeline of clinton's life and provide a research tool for historians and teachers. temporary exhibits (relative to clinton and others that are not) are scheduled during the year. on the third floor, the most striking exhibits are unveiled: a replica of clinton's oval office and a display of his presidential gifts, both which seem to captivate all visitors. the vast array of gifts range from a sony discman to jewels. due to the damage from light exposure, many of these artifacts will be not be on display long but will be returned to the archives for preservation. even if you're not a fan of this democrat, it still provides a picture into the complex life of a US president.
