24 hours in Leiper’s Fork Tennessee

Leiper’s Fork is tiny but mighty, and no one loves it more than the community that calls it home. If you’re in the Nashville area, take a 30 mile road trip south, and get to know this gem. Considered part of Nashville’s Big Back Yard, Leiper’s Fork has everything that Nashville does without the crowds (but as the word gets out, we can’t promise there won’t be crowds). If you can stay longer, we’ve got the ideal place to lay your head. If it’s only a day trip, start early and end the day late. Prepare for friendly conversations with an hospitable welcome.

Walking the downtown hamlet can be done easily in one day, so explore at your leisure. There are a few places not to be missed that require your car, but for the most part, park and walk and enjoy. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it’s main street unfolds preserved buildings, holding on to the past while embracing a touch of modern.

Fork and Field for the stay

If you discover that 24-hours is not enough, let Fork and Field provide the comfortable and beautiful accommodations for a party of two or a large group. Most located in the downtown area. With entire cottages and single rooms available, these venues will inspire your exploration. Pictured: Historic Leiper’s Fork Inn.

Fuel the day with RedByrd coffee alongside a gas station biscuit

RedByrd Coffee

Coffee with a smile

RedByrd serves coffee with a side of smiles and music. Step inside this tiny house trailer, grab a bag of coffee to take home while waiting for your expertly crafted latte. No seating inside, so find a spot at one of the picnic tables. But not before you head next door to Leiper’s Fork Market. Don’t let the gas station garb fool you. For the best biscuits (sausage and egg for me), it’s here. Not picnic table weather? Then pull up a seat at the community table, lit by a hanging crystal chandelier, inside the market. A fine start to the day.

Savor a wine tasting

Venture out of town to taste Tennessee tradition

A taste of three Tennessee whiskeys. Leiper’s Fork Distillery is part of the Tennessee Whiskey Trail.

A short drive from downtown, Leiper’s Fork Distillery shares their version of Tennessee whiskey. Crafted in small batches, taste tradition with a whiskey tasting or take a tour of the distillery (reservations recommended). It is open Wednesday through Sunday for tours.

Head to the country and Patina Meadow

Find the design collections of Brooke and Steve GIANNETTI in their downtown shop of Patina Home and Garden. Outside of town, the Giannetti’s 100-acre farm brings the community together through events and classes. Their daughter Leila teaches the art of wheel-thrown pottery at the Meadow, assisting students in finishing a piece to take home. A definite addition to your stay in Leiper’s Fork should time allow. See what’s coming up with their classes and gatherings, and if you love design and architecture, please sign up to receive their blog. Online shopping (antiques, home, lifestyle, and books) is always available.

Make it a night at Fox + Locke

With a strong arts and music scene brewing, you never know who will take the stage at Fox & Locke. Anchoring this small town, F & L is considered an ‘old time joint where you can order a burger and a beer.’ You’ll find live music most every night - with a mix of Grammy-winners stopping in to escape the Nashville scene. Get there early, especially on a weekends - music is always free, to get the perfect view of the stage. They do serve lunch, but it’s the night scene that continues to make this once-hole-in-the-wall a show-stopper and visitor favorite.
