Escape to Beech Mountain during the shoulder season

Shoulder season is often the best time to travel because the trade-offs favor the traveler. Beech Mountain, North Carolina, known for its winter skiing, offers the traveler wonderful opportunities to discover this North Carolina mountaintop during the off-season.

Why is shoulder season better at any destination?

🚗 Fewer crowds: No lines in restaurants and reserving your perfect cabin is easier.
🚗 Pricing and availability: Accommodations are usually less expensive which makes travel for the family or couple more affordable and extend adventure possibilities.
🚗 Get to know the community: Locals are ready for conversations, sharing what they love most about their area.
🚗 Comfortable weather: In the spring or fall, temperatures are lower than the summer and milder than winter.

At 5,506 feet, Beech Mountain is typically among the first places to get fall color. You’ll never have to guess if the leaves have changed. Opt for days in September for a first look at autumn’s colors.

Feels like home at Sweet Dreams, Carolina Cabins

Carolina Cabin Rentals offer homes in multiple locations (Boone, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock, Eagles Nest) in the mountains of North Carolina. Choose your destination and there’s a place with your name on it. Remember some cabins require a 4-wheel drive for access due to steep inclines - even in the shoulder season - so plan accordingly. Want a hot tub? They’ve got you. One that is pet friendly? You bet.

Breakfast plus shopping at Fred’s Mercantile

Fred's General Mercantile is off the Beech Mountain Parkway and is widely treated as a community institution, the kind of place where you simply end up. The menu features breakfast biscuit sandwiches (or a hearty eggs, bacon and gravy plate), bowls of chili, subs, burgers, hot dogs, and homemade cinnamon rolls. The day begins slowly at Fred’s, as it should. This welcoming old-fashioned store captures the small-town in its small space that offers travelers exactly what they need. Grind a bag of Conrad’s Coffee (Boone, NC) to brew at home. The Appalachian Blend is a medium roast that is classic and simple.
